Young Berg Pistol Whippin *Update*

Almost Famous EPEpic/E1 Records rapper Yung Berg is not new to robbery and altercation. The Chicago-born rapper who began his career as an artist on DMX's Bloodline Records was victim to a highly-publicized attacking in Detroit in 2008 that involved rapper Trick Trick. That incident left Berg with his jewelry stolen, and began a series of online postings taunting the then-21 year-old entertainer. Later that year, rapper Maino also "slapped" Berg at a New York event and told the press, he let Berg "keep his chain."

That was not the case this past weekend, says Los Angeles police officials. TMZ.com reports that during a party at a gathering in a Los Angeles' historic Mulholland Drive, four men trespassed at 2am Monday morning (February 22). After waving pistols, the assailants pistol-whipped two of the party-goers, one of which was Berg, and split with a reported $10,000 in cash and jewels.

At the time of TMZ's story, Berg's reps state that the rapper was in Las Vegas during the weekend. That rep said they had heard nothing about Monday's incident.

The Los Angeles Times claims the house of the robbery to be owned by a "Rap record label," though the specifics have yet to be confirmed.

UPDATE: Yung Berg just posted this video:

He said the following, reportedly from Las Vegas. "So basically there is a story on TMZ or whatever. Thanks for the free promo and publicity right now. It’s just not the right publicity. I wish y'all was talking about the album or mixtape. I am fine. I’m straight. I’m still gorgeous. I love you mom, Thanks for these good genes."

It was unclear whether or not Berg was confirming or denying the reports. After giving fans his status, he said the following. "Stop paying attention to bullshit. It ain't about nothing. It gets you nowhere."

Ice Cube Readies 9th Album

Ice Cube Collection: 4 Film FavoritesIce Cube - Greatest HitsHip Hop legend Ice Cube has revealed his upcoming album, I Am the West, via his blog.

"I AM THE WEST...is the name of my new record. After completing about 65% of my music, this is the perfect title," wrote the Compton native.

Cube indicated he'd be returning to his roots for the album, as well as giving an approximate release date. "This shit is cocky, no apologies, west coast gangsta shit. I can't help it. That's what I do. June seems too tight for a release, but July is very doable. We'll see how things go. Now that I have my title, I can work on the concept of my photoshoot and artwork. I want to provide early merch before the drop date."

Finally, Ice Cube expressed his commitment to an authentic west coast sound, rather than pandering to other markets. "For seven or eight years now the west coast has been trying to do music that appeals to the south and midwest. The words, 'too west coast' would be heard throughout the industry whenever our music was played. Even by our own [deejays]. Left coast emcees were now trying to change their sound to cater to all the followers. We lost our way. Thank God for b-boys like Snoop [Dogg], The Game and WC for keeping the West alive, but we were all guilty of over reaching. No more. At least not from me. I do it how I feel it; not how I think it should be done. Radio fucked us up. I hate the politics at radio. I don't know who to pay to get my shit played. Having a hot song is not enough. Ridiculous."

Ice Cube's last album was 2008's Raw Footage.
